ESPN Adds Sixers Game; Marlins Bump Heat to ESPN2

ESPN has made a couple of adjustments to the schedule for the ongoing 2011-12* NBA regular season. The February 17 Mavericks/Sixers NBA regular season game has been moved to ESPN, replacing the previously scheduled Hornets/Knicks telecast. The game will be the first Sixers telecast of the abbreviated season on ESPN.

CBS Sports writer Adam Jacobi told The Washington Post Friday that he has been fired for erroneously reporting the death of Joe Paterno hours before the coach passed away. Jacobi reported Paterno’s death Saturday night based on a Twitter post by the independent Penn State website Onward State. However, his report did not explicitly cite Onward State until it became clear later in the night that the Twitter post was erroneous.

The 2012 AFC Championship Game, won by the Patriots over the Ravens, earned a 27.4 fast-national rating and 48.7 million viewers on CBS Sunday afternoon — down 3% in ratings and 6% in viewership from last year’s comparable game (GB/CHI: 28.1, 51.884M, FOX), but up 4% in both measures compared to 2010 (NYJ/IND: 26.3, 46.917M, CBS).

The 2012 NFC Championship Game, an overtime victory for the Giants over the 49ers, earned a 30.6 final rating and 57.635 million viewers on FOX Sunday evening, up 8% in ratings and 5% in viewership from last year’s comparable game (NYJ/PIT: 28.3, 54.850M, CBS), and flat in ratings and down 1% in viewership compared to 2010 (MIN/NO: 30.6, 57.933M, FOX).
