Idle notes.

  • Cowboys/Falcons may be the best NFL game nobody saw.
  • Dick Vermeil suffered from laryngitis last night’s Dallas/Atlanta tilt and had to leave in the second quarter. Marshall Faulk and then later Deion Sanders picked up the slack with Bryant Gumbel.
  • Brent Musburger and Bob Davie will call the Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl between BYU and Oregon for ESPN; Craig James will be the third analyst and Lisa Salters will work the sidelines.
  • Brad Nessler, Paul Maguire and Bob Griese will work the Capital One Bowl on ABC, one of only two bowl games the network will televise.
  • Mike Emrick and Ed Olczyk will call the Penguins/Flyers game for NBC on January 13; the Bruins/Rangers game, despite being in the large markets of New York and Boston, will not be NBC’s featured game.
