Three of the four sports Commissioners align themselves with the Democratic party, at least when it comes to political donations, according to NewsMeat. David Stern, Gary Bettman and Bud Selig give more than 90 percent of their political donations to the Democratic party. Roger Goodell of the NFL donates 23 percent to Democrats and 77 percent to the GOP.

It’s not accurate to portray many of these athletes as strictly falling into one camp. Sure, Brian Urlacher gave 100% of his contributions to Democrats. But what you fail to mention is that he gave one donation of $1000 to a local politician. One-time donations or support of a local politician does not necessarily reflect one’s ideological views.

While this is an interesting post, I agree with the above comment. As another example, Tim McCarver’s 100% to the GOP was actually a $500 donation to former teammate Jim Bunning. This donation really doesn’t tell you if McCarver is a Democrat or Republican; he was just donating a small amount of money to a friend. Perhaps including actual amounts along with percentages would have been better, or maybe it merits a separate post (if there’s a slow day or something).

if he donated to Bunning, that just proves he’s a total idiot, which is even worse than your run of the mill Republican.
