Recent sports TV ratings news, including the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Padres ratings in San Diego and the World Series of Softball.

  • Last Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series Kroger 250 drew a 1.5 U.S. rating and 2.357 million viewers on ESPN2, up 15% in ratings and 24% in viewership from last year (1.3, 1.903 mil), and up 15% and 22%, respectively, from 2008 (1.3, 1.933 mil). Saturday’s race actually outdrew every single sporting event on broadcast last weekend, including regional MLB action on FOX the same day (1.4, 2.193 mil). (Sports Business Daily)
  • Tuesday’s Dodgers/Padres game drew an 8.2 rating on 4SD in San Diego, while Wednesday’s matchup between the teams drew a 7.7. Both games drew “by far the best ratings” for Padres coverage this season. (nctimes.com)
  • ESPN drew a 0.5 U.S. rating and 827,000 viewers for the July 22 USA/Canada World Cup of Softball match, outdrawing recent events such as the MLS All-Star Game on ESPN2 (0.4, 714,000) and the WNBA All-Star Game on ESPN (0.3, 429,000). (Sports Business Daily)
