Overnight ratings fell by more than a quarter for the championship of the Little League World Series.
Sunday’s Japan/Hawaii championship game drew a 2.0 overnight rating on ABC, down 29% from last year’s game between California and Taiwan (2.8) and down 43% from Georgia/Japan in 2007 (3.5). Overnight ratings for the 2008 game were unavailable.
Barring a rare increase from the overnight to the final rating, Sunday’s game is on pace to finish with the single lowest rating for the championship of the Little League World Series since at least 1997.
On Saturday, the Hawaii/Texas U.S. Championship drew a 1.6 overnight rating, up 14% from Hawaii/Louisiana in 2008 (1.4) and down 27% from Georgia/Texas in ’07 (2.2). The 2009 game aired on ESPN2.
ABC actually drew better numbers for the International Championship earlier in the day. The Japan/Taiwan game drew a 1.9 overnight, down a tick from Taiwan/Mexico last year (2.0), up 58% from Japan/Mexico in ’08 (1.2) and up a tick from Japan/Curacao in ’07 (1.8).
