Despite the hype, Boise State’s latest foray onto the national scene was not a spectacular draw for ABC Saturday night.
Saturday’s Oregon State/Boise State game drew a 3.8 overnight rating on ABC, down 5% from Iowa/Penn State last year (4.0), but up 23% from Georgia/Arizona State on the comparable weekend in 2008 (3.1).
The 3.8 overnight is the second-highest of the season for a college football game on ABC, trailing only last week’s edition of Saturday Night Football (4.9).
That said, the 3.8 is also tied as the 15th lowest overnight for Saturday Night Football since ABC began airing the program in 2006 (52 telecasts overall).
Oregon State/Boise State was not the top game of the day, trailing Alabama/Arkansas on CBS (5.4).
Earlier Saturday, ABC drew a 3.1 overnight for regional action featuring UCLA/Texas, down 30% from last year (MIA/VT*: 4.4) and down 9% from 2008 (ND/MSU*: 3.4).
