Overnights Drop Double-Digits For Red Sox/Yankees on FOX

The Red Sox/Yankees rivalry has gone from a the biggest marquee attraction in baseball to slightly above average.

Regional MLB action featuring Red Sox/Yankees drew a 2.0 overnight rating on FOX Saturday afternoon, down 17% from coverage featuring the same matchup last year (2.4) and down 23% from coverage featuring Cubs/Brewers in 2008 (2.6).

Keep in mind the 2008 telecast took place on the final Saturday of the season.

Final ratings for Major League Baseball telecasts tend to decline from the overnight. With that in mind, Saturday’s telecast is likely to finish below 2.0 when the final ratings are released — a dubious distinction for a rivalry that used to routinely draw ratings in the 3.0 range.

Even if the 2.0 overnight holds, it would mark the lowest rating for a Red Sox/Yankees telecast on FOX since at least 2001.

Sunday’s Red Sox/Yankees game on ESPN drew a 2.2 overnight. Last year’s comparable numbers were not available.
