U.S. Open Not A Hit For CBS

CBS did not exactly light up the ratings with coverage of the U.S. Open over the weekend.

Coverage of the 2010 U.S. Open drew a 2.0 overnight rating on CBS Monday afternoon, down 13% from last year (2.3), down 5% from 2008 (2.1) and down 17% from 2007 (2.4). Monday was the third consecutive day of double-digit declines for the U.S. Open on CBS.

Saturday’s coverage drew a 1.2, down 25% from last year (1.6), down 14% from 2008 (1.4) and down 25% from 2007 (1.6).

The 1.2 is the lowest for the first Saturday of the U.S. Open on CBS since at least 1996 (overnights prior to ’97 were not available).

Meanwhile, coverage on Sunday drew a 1.8, down 14% from last year (2.1), up 13% from ’08 (1.6) and down 5% from ’07 (1.9).

The 1.8 is the second-lowest for the first Sunday of the U.S. Open on CBS since at least ’96. Keep in mind that CBS did not air coverage of the first Sunday in 1998 or 2000, due to the NFL.
