Huge Declines For The Tour Championship

The finale of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup was a bust in the ratings.

Final round coverage of The Tour Championship drew a mere 1.0 final rating and 1.438 million viewers on NBC Sunday, down 67% in ratings and 68% in viewership from last year (3.0, 4.545 mil) — when Phil Mickelson won the tournament and Tiger Woods clinched the FedEx Cup.

Woods did not qualify for this year’s tournament and Mickelson finished tied for #22.

The 1.0 rating also marks a 38% decline from 2008 (1.6) and a 67% decline from 2007 (3.0).

This marks the lowest rating for the final round of The Tour Championship since 2006, the last year the event aired in November (0.9).

Additionally, the 1.0 is the second-lowest final round rating for any PGA Tour event on broadcast this year.

Saturday’s third round action drew a 0.9 final rating and 1.239 million viewers, down 57% in ratings and viewership from last year (2.1, 2.907 mil).

Overall, all eight weekend afternoon FedEx Cup telecasts had double-digit declines in ratings compared to last year.
