Despite a lengthy delay due to inclement weather, Monday’s high-profile Vikings/Jets battle put up strong numbers on ESPN.
ESPN drew a 12.2 overnight rating for the Jets’ win over the Vikings Monday night, up 22% from Week 5 last year (NYJ/MIA: 10.0). The 12.2 overnight is the highest of the season for Monday Night Football on ESPN.
Vikings/Jets drew a higher overnight than Sunday’s Eagles/49ers game on NBC (11.7), marking the first time this season that Monday Night Football has topped Sunday Night Football.
The 12.2 for Vikings/Jets is the best for any primetime NFL telecast during the MLB Division Series since at least 2002*.
The ESPN telecast drew a 13.6 rating in the Minneapolis-St. Paul market and a 10.5 in New York. The game was simulcast on local television affiliates in both markets, earning a 32.1 on Minneapolis-St. Paul ABC affiliate KSTP and a 5.3 on New York MyNetworkTV affiliate WWOR.
* NBC put out a press release on Monday saying that Eagles/49ers (11.7) drew “the second-best NFL primetime overnight during the Divisional Playoffs in eight years, since a 12.1/18 for Green Bay-Chicago on 10/7/02 on ABC.” Vikings/Jets not only topped Eagles/49ers but Packers/Bears as well, meaning the game drew the highest primetime overnight during the Division Series since at least 2002.
