The Ratings Game: TNT Hits Season-Lows For Thursday NBA Doubleheader


Recent sports TV ratings news, including ratings for Noon ET college football games on ESPN, and season-low ratings for the NBA on TNT.

  • Last Saturday’s Noon ET Iowa/Northwestern game drew a 1.6 U.S. rating and 2.483 million viewers on ESPN, down 45% and 43%, respectively, from Michigan/Illinois in the same timeslot a week earlier (2.9, 4.326 mil). Over on ESPN2, the Noon ET Indiana/Wisconsin game drew a 0.8 and 1.087 million. (
  • The Heat’s blowout win over the Suns earned a 1.4 U.S. rating and 2.098 million viewers on ESPN Wednesday night, the lowest rated, least-viewed Heat game of the season on ESPN or TNT. In the nightcap, Bulls/Spurs drew a 1.4 and 1.914 million viewers, the top game of the season that did not feature the Heat, Lakers or Celtics. Ratings and viewership for last year’s games were not available. (
  • The very next night, another Suns blowout loss to another Florida team (the Magic) earned a 0.8 U.S. rating and 1.212 million viewers on TNT — down 20% and 21%, respectively, from last year (PHX/NO: 1.0, 1.529 mil). In the nightcap, Nuggets/Trail Blazers drew a 0.7 and 1.052 million, down 50% in both ratings and viewership from last year (CHI/LAL: 1.4, 2.084 mil). The two games rank as easily the lowest rated, least-viewed NBA games on ESPN or TNT this season. (
