Saturday’s clash between top ten SEC rivals Alabama and LSU was even with last year’s matchup between the teams, but trailed their 2008 meeting.

LSU’s victory over Alabama earned a 4.4 overnight rating on CBS Saturday afternoon, flat compared to both last year (LSU/ALA: 4.4) and 2008 (GA/FLA: 4.4).

The game marked the second return of Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban to Baton Rouge since leaving LSU five years ago. Saban’s first return in 2008 earned a 5.5 overnight.

The 4.4 overnight for Alabama/LSU is the lowest of the season for an Alabama telecast on CBS (four telecasts). The previous three games each earned at least a 5.0 overnight.

Of course, Alabama was the nation’s #1 team for all three of those games.

Having said that, Alabama/LSU was the top college football telecast on broadcast over the weekend, topping both games of ABC’s college football doubleheader (3.6 and 2.8).
