World Series: Game 4 Beaten By SNF, Down From ’09 and ’08

The Giants/Rangers World Series tied a series-high on Sunday night, but that was about the only good news in the ratings department.

Game 4 of the 2010 World Series earned a 10.4 overnight rating on FOX Sunday night, down 33% from Game 4 last year (NYY/PHI: 15.6), and down 3% from Game 4 in 2008 (TB/PHI: 10.7).

Sunday’s game was outdrawn by Sunday Night Football on NBC (PIT/NO: 11.8). This is likely the first time ever that the World Series has been beaten head-to-head by the NFL.

This marks the lowest overnight rating ever for a Sunday night World Series game, and the lowest overnight ever for a Game 4 in the World Series. The previous lows were set by the aforementioned Sunday night Phillies/Rays Game 4 in 2008.

The 10.4 overnight for Game 4 ties last Wednesday’s Game 1 as the highest of the series.

The Giants’ win drew a 36.3 rating in the Bay Area, up 21% from Game 3 (30.0). Ratings for Game 4 of the ’02 World Series in the market were unavailable.

In Dallas-Ft. Worth, the game drew a 31.5 rating, up 17% from Game 3 (26.9).
