For the second straight year, viewership declined for college football’s Poinsettia Bowl.
San Diego State’s 21-point win over Navy earned a 2.3 U.S. rating and 3.568 million viewers on ESPN Thursday night, down a tick in ratings and 5% in viewership from last year (UTAH/CAL: 2.4, 3.736 mil), and down 28% and 30%, respectively, from 2008 (TCU/BOISE: 3.2, 5.061 mil).
This marks the least-viewed Poinsettia Bowl since 2007 (UTAH/NAVY: 2.352 mil).
The game aired opposite live NFL action on NFL Network, which drew 4.394 million viewers.
Of the eight bowls through December 26, Thursday’s game ranks as the third-most viewed.
