Overnight ratings dropped by double-digits for last week’s Alamo and Liberty Bowls, while the Texas Bowl had a modest increase.
The Oklahoma State/Arizona Alamo Bowl drew a 3.0 overnight rating on ESPN last Wednesday, down 42% from last season (TTU/MSU: 5.2), and down 25% from two seasons ago (MIZZOU/NWSTN: 4.0).
Last year’s Alamo Bowl was Texas Tech’s first after the controversial firing of head coach Mike Leach.
Earlier Wednesday, ESPN drew a 2.7 overnight for the Illinois/Baylor Texas Bowl, up 17% from last year (NAVY/MIZZOU: 2.3), and up 2,600% from the 2008 game on NFL Network (RICE/W. MICH: 0.1)
Elsewhere in bowl news, Friday’s Liberty Bowl on ESPN drew a 3.2 overnight, down 24% from last year (ARK/ECU: 4.2), and up 28% from 2008 (ECU/KU: 2.5).
