The Ratings Game: ESPN Sets NBA Celebrity Game Record


Recent sports TV ratings news, including the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, NBA All-Star Weekend ratings in Oklahoma City, and ratings for both the All-Star Game and Daytona 500 in Houston.

  • Friday’s NBA All-Star Celebrity Game drew a 1.5 U.S. rating and 2.358 million viewers on ESPN, up 15% in ratings an 12% in viewership from last year (1.3, 2.106M), and up 25% and 30%, respectively, from 2009 (1.2, 1.821M).   • NBA All-Star Saturday Night earned a 6.6 rating in the Oklahoma City market, up 247% from last year (1.9). The increase can likely be attributed to the presence of Clippers F — and former Univ. of Oklahoma star — Blake Griffin. The All-Star Game itself earned a 5.8 rating on Sunday, up 71% from last year (3.4). (
  • Running counter to the national trend, the NBA All-Star Game finished comfortably ahead of the Daytona 500 in the Houston market, 6.4 to 4.7. Houston ranked just 52nd out of 56 metered markets for the Daytona 500, and 16th for the NBA game. (
