Yet Another 0.8 Rating For NHL on NBC

After a one week hiatus, the NHL returned to NBC last week with another sub-1.0 rating.

The Rangers’ 7-0 win over the Flyers earned a 0.8 final rating and 1.245 million viewers on NBC last Sunday, down 20% in ratings and 13% in viewership from last year (DET/CHI: 1.0, 1.430M), but even in ratings and up 11% in viewership from 2009 (BOS/NYR: 0.8, 1.122M).

Four of six NHL telecasts on NBC this season have failed to draw a 1.0 rating. That excludes regional coverage on February 20, as ratings were not available for that telecast.

Only the January 1 Penguins/Capitals Winter Classic (2.3) and Penguins/Blackhawks on February 20 (1.1) have attracted at least 1% of U.S. television households.

The only sports telecasts on the Big Four broadcast networks last week to draw lower numbers than Flyers/Rangers were various late night editions of NBC’s Poker After Dark.
