The 2011 NBA Playoffs got off to a strong start on TNT Sunday, as two of the network’s three games were up substantially from last year.
TNT averaged a 3.3 overnight rating for coverage of the 2011 NBA Playoffs on Sunday, up 32% from comparable coverage last year (2.5).
In particular, Knicks/Celtics Game 1 earned a 4.3 overnight on Sunday evening, up 48% from last year’s comparable game (SA/DAL G1: 2.9), which aired in a later timeslot.
The Celtics’ close victory earned a 6.2 rating in Boston and a 5.4 in New York.
Later in the night, Nuggets/Thunder Game 1 drew a 3.4 overnight, up 55% from last year’s game (POR/PHX G1: 2.2), which also aired in a later timeslot.
The Thunder’s victory drew an 8.0 in Oklahoma City and a 6.4 in Denver.
Earlier in the day, the Grizzlies’ upset win over the Spurs scored a 2.3 overnight. There was no game in the comparable timeslot (1:00-4:00 PM) last year. For comparison purposes, the first game of last year’s tripleheader on TNT (CHA/ORL G1) drew a 2.5 overnight.
The game drew a 10.6 in San Antonio and an 8.0 in Memphis.
