NBA Playoffs: Bulls/Hawks a Big Draw For TNT

The closer-than-expected battle between the Bulls and Hawks has earned stronger-than-expected numbers on TNT.

The Hawks’ series-tying Game 4 win over the Bulls earned a 4.6 overnight rating on TNT Sunday night, up 31% from last year (PHX/SA G4: 3.5). The game drew the third-highest overnight of the second round on TNT (seven telecasts), behind only two Mavericks/Lakers games, and ahead of Celtics/Heat Game 2 (4.5).

Game 4 earned a massive 20.1 rating in Chicago, the nation’s third-largest TV market. Atlanta continues to post much less impressive numbers, with Game 4 earning a 7.9.

Bulls are the 3rd biggest draw in the East after the Heat/Knicks overall one of the better draws in the whole league. Look at the Bulls local ratings for the past several years always great numbers. Bulls are a bigger draw than the Celtics.

There’s a good chance that the Bulls might just be the biggest draw in the East. When the Bulls have either Jordan or Rose featured they are a huge draw. The Jordan ratings back in the 90s were all-time record setters. The more and more Rose builds his legacy the more I believe the Bulls will get to that level.

If you look at the Bulls ratings this postseason they have single-handily carried the Pacers and Hawks ratings. The Bulls finally get a worthy television drawing opponent in the Celtics or Heat next round. If it ends up being the Heat that whole series will set a record for NBA games on cable television.

Celtics will be a good draw also but I’m not sure unless the series reaches a Game 6 or 7 if it can surpass the Cavs-Magic finals a couple of years back. The good news is the Bulls-Celtics series a couple of years ago got the highest ratings ever for a first round series on cable television in the NBA.

Also remember Bulls vs Celtics (without KG) was one of the greatest all time NBA series of all time, Remember the record overtime games and the extremely competitive series.
Blackhawks won the stanley cup, But there local tv ratings were nothing compared to the Bulls. Bulls always great season or bad season have fantastic tv ratings for there local feed.
Derrick Rose is already loved as anyone is in Chicago, Crazy to think it’s only his 3th season in the league. Derrick’s Bulls remind me of Iverson’s Sixers a 1 man team that lives off him.

Regardless I still think Heat are a bigger draw in 2011, I cannot see The NBA finals ratings be lower than a 11.0 at least with the Heat, assuming it’s not more.
