The Ratings Game: NASCAR Ratings Up Among Men 18-34

Recent sports TV ratings news, including an increase for NASCAR among men 18-34, declines for the Rays in Tampa-St. Petersburg, and a last-place finish in primetime for MLB on FOX.

  • NASCAR Ratings Up in Key Demo, Still Down From ’09: Through the Southern 500, ratings for NASCAR on FOX have increased by 19% among men 18-34, the same demographic that had a much-publicized double-digit decline for races last season. Though up from last year, viewership in the demographic still trails 2009. (
  • Ratings Down For MLB’s Rays: So far this season, Rays games have averaged 59,000 TV homes (appx. 3.3 local rating) on Sun Sports in the Tampa-St. Petersburg market, down 34% from 90,000 homes (appx. 5.0 rating) last year. (
  • FOX Finishes Last in Primetime With MLB: Overnights are unavailable for Saturday’s primetime MLB action on FOX. According to preliminary non-timezone adjusted numbers, FOX finished last in viewership among the Big Four broadcast networks Saturday night, and second among adults 18-49. CBS won the night in both viewership and the adults 18-49 demo. If and when the overnights become available, that information will be posted here. (TV By the Numbers)
