Belmont Stakes Overnight Low, But Up 55%

Overnight ratings for The 2011 Belmont Stakes were less than spectacular for NBC Saturday evening, but the numbers were still up substantially from last year.

The race portion of The Belmont Stakes earned a 4.8 overnight rating on NBC Saturday, up 55% from last year (3.1, ABC), but down 4% from 2009 (5.0, ABC).

The 4.8 overnight is the fourth-lowest for race portion of The Belmont Stakes dating back to 2002 (ten races).

Excluding years in which there was the possibility of a Triple Crown winner, the 4.8 ranks as the third-highest overnight over the same span.

The race marked the first time since 2005 that The Belmont Stakes aired on NBC. The last time the network televised the event, the race portion earned a 6.0.

Ft. Myers, FL, was the top market for Saturday’s race (8.7). Louisville (8.6), Baltimore (8.6), Hartford (8.1), New York (7.4) and Buffalo (7.4) rounded out the top five.
