Recent sports TV ratings news, including more declines for MLB on FOX, mixed numbers for the PGA Tour on CBS, and lower numbers for the first weekend of Wimbledon on NBC.
- MLB on FOX Down Again: Regional MLB action featuring Mets/Rangers earned a 1.4 final rating and 2.160 million viewers on FOX June 25, down 7% in ratings and 5% in viewership from the thirteenth telecast last year (NYM/WSH*: 1.5, 2.265M), and flat in ratings and down 1% in viewership from the thirteenth telecast in 2009 (LAD/SD*: 1.4, 2.191M). The comparable telecasts last year and in 2009 both aired on July 4 weekend. The last four MLB telecasts on FOX have had declines from last year.
- Numbers Mixed For Travelers Championship: Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Travelers Championship drew a 1.3 final rating and 1.947 million viewers on CBS June 26, down 24% in ratings and 17% in viewership from last year (1.7, 2.356M), and down 19% and 14%, respectively, from 2009 (1.6, 2.254M). Third round action on June 25 earned a 1.1 and 1.500 million viewers, up 25% in ratings and 23% in viewership from last year (0.8, 1.217M), and flat in ratings and up 3% in viewership from 2009 (1.1, 1.456M).
- Early Wimbledon Ratings Down on NBC: Early round coverage of Wimbledon drew a 1.1 final rating and 1.520 million viewers on NBC June 25, down 8% in ratings and 11% in viewership from last year (1.2, 1.705M), but up 10% and 6%, respectively, from 2009 (1.0, 1.439M). Coverage of the ‘Middle Sunday’ on June 26 earned a 0.8 and 1.088 million viewers, off 20% in ratings and 23% in viewership from last year (1.0, 1.407M), and flat in ratings and down 9% in viewership from 2009 (0.8, 1.200M).
