The 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup has attracted near-record audiences for Univision-owned Galavision.
The Brazil/Mexico U-20 World Cup semifinal drew 1.713 million viewers on Galavision Wednesday night, the second-largest audience ever for a program on a Spanish-language cable network.
It was the second time in a week that the U-20 World Cup attracted a top five all-time audience. Saturday’s Mexico/Colombia match drew 1.323 million viewers on Galavision, at the time the fourth-largest audience ever on a Spanish-language cable network.
Wednesday’s match ranks as the ninth-most viewed sporting event on cable during the month of August, and the fourth-most viewed event among adults 18-34 and men 18-34.
Though Galavision did not disclose tournament-to-date averages in a Friday press release, the network said average viewership for the U-20 World Cup has risen by 327% over 2009.
