NBC Sports Group Acquires Rights to Major League Soccer

Major League Soccer is headed to NBC Sports Group.

NBC Sports Group has acquired rights to Major League Soccer through 2014, it was announced Wednesday.

Under the deal, which begins next year, NBC and NBC Sports Network will combine to televise 45 MLS matches and four U.S. men’s national team matches annually.

NBC will air six matches per year, including two each from the MLS regular season, MLS postseason, and U.S. national team. The deal will result in Major League Soccer’s largest broadcast television exposure since 2002.

All matches will include pre-and-postmatch coverage.

The NBC contract replaces Fox Soccer’s one-year deal, which expires at the end of this season. The deal with NBC does not affect MLS’ current contract with ESPN, which also expires in 2014.
