Over One Million Viewers For USA/Mexico Friendly

Despite a delay of over a half-hour, Wednesday’s United States/Mexico soccer friendly scored healthy numbers for ESPN2.

ESPN2 drew 1.084 million viewers for the United States/Mexico friendly Wednesday night, up 38% from a Brazil/United States friendly on the same date last year (783K, ESPN).

Coverage of the match was supposed to begin at 9 PM ET, but was pushed back to after 9:30 due to the Little League World Series.

Compared to other recent soccer telecasts on English-language networks, the match drew slightly fewer viewers than the Mexico/USA Gold Cup final on Fox Soccer earlier this year (1.099M), but topped ESPN2’s coverage of the recent MLS All-Star Game (781K).

Keep in mind Wednesday’s match also aired on Univision. Numbers for the Univision telecast were not immediately available.
