Recent sports TV ratings news, including another decline for Major League Baseball on FOX, mixed numbers for the PGA Tour’s Greenbrier Classic, and another 600,000+ viewers for the MLS All-Star Game.
- Another Double-Digit Drop For MLB on FOX: Regional MLB action featuring Cubs/Cardinals earned a 1.6 final rating and 2.438 million viewers on FOX July 30, down 24% in ratings and 25% in viewership from the network’s eighteenth telecast last year (BOS/NYY*: 2.1, 3.250M), and down 41% and 38%, respectively, from 2009 (BOS/NYY*: 2.7, 3.962M). Seven of the last nine MLB telecasts on FOX have had declines versus last year.
- Mixed Numbers For PGA’s Greenbrier Classic: Final round coverage of The Greenbrier Classic drew a 1.3 final rating and 1.959 million viewers on CBS last Sunday, up 8% in ratings and up 17% in viewership from last year’s inaugural edition (1.2, 1.677M). Third round action on July 30 earned a 0.9 and 1.300 million, down 10% and 4%, respectively, from last year (0.9, 1.348M).
- MLS All-Star Game Earns Another 600K on Telefutura: The July 27 MLS All-Star Game earned a 0.4 final rating and 665,000 viewers on Telefutura. Combined with the ESPN2 telecast of the match (0.5, 781K), the MLS All-Star Game drew a combined audience of over 1.4 million viewers, on par with this year’s NHL All-Star Game on Versus (1.481M).
