Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully will return to the Dodgers for the 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Scully said during Friday’s Rockies/Dodgers broadcast that he will continue to call Dodger games next season. Scully is currently in his 62nd season as a Dodgers broadcaster, having joined the team in 1950.
“I don’t want to make a big deal out of it, I mean you and I have been friends for a long time,” Scully said, addressing viewers, “but after a lot of soul-searching, a few prayers … we’ve decided we will come back to the Dodgers for next year.”
Scully, 83, has hinted in recent years that he might soon retire. In July 2009, he suggested he would retire after the 2010 season, but later backed away from that statement.
Last August, he announced that he would return for this season.
