NFL Week 3: CBS Continues Downward Trend

For the third time in four tries this season, CBS had a decline in overnight ratings for NFL coverage.

The Week 3 NFL singleheader, featuring Jets/Raiders, earned a 12.5 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon — down 11% from last year (DAL/HOU*: 14.0, FOX), and flat compared to 2009 (ATL/NE*: 12.5, FOX).

This is the third of four NFL telecasts on CBS this season to have a decline in overnight ratings versus last year. The only exception was the Week 1 singleheader, which was flat compared to last year.

Though down from last year, the singleheader window was not too far off NBC’s Sunday Night Football, which earned a 13.2 overnight.

NOTE: Percentages are not available for the CBS games, so the presumption here is that the featured game is whichever game includes the ‘A’ team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms.
