Recent sports TV ratings notes, including college football overnight ratings on ABC (LSU/West Virginia and more), CBS (Arkansas/Alabama), and various cable networks (Florida State/Clemson and more).
- ABC’s Saturday Night Football Up Slightly: The #2 LSU/#16 West Virginia Saturday Night Football game earned a 4.0 overnight rating on ABC Saturday, up 4% from last year (OSU/BSU: 3.8), and even with 2009 (IOWA/PSU: 4.0). Earlier in the day, regional action featuring #7 Oklahoma State/#8 Texas A&M earned a 3.7, up 19% from last year (UCLA/TEX*: 3.1), but down 16% from 2009 (MIA/VT*: 4.4). The first game of the network’s tripleheader, Notre Dame/Pittsburgh, earned a 3.3; there was no comparable game last year.
- Huge Drop For Arkansas/Alabama: CBS earned a mere 2.6 overnight rating for Saturday’s #14 Arkansas/#3 Alabama matchup, down a whopping 52% from the same matchup last year, when Alabama was ranked #1 and Arkansas #10 (5.4), but up 18% from the same matchup in 2009 (2.2), when Alabama was #3 and Arkansas was unranked.
- Florida State/Clemson Leads ESPN Games: #11 Florida State’s loss to #21 Clemson earned Saturday’s highest college football overnight on ESPN, with a 1.9. #23 USC/Arizona State (1.8), #16 Florida/Kentucky (1.6) and North Carolina/#25 Georgia Tech (1.5) rounded out the remainder of the network’s Saturday slate. As far as the other networks, Missouri/#1 Oklahoma earned a 1.3 overnight on FX, and #9 Nebraska/Wyoming eked out a tiny 0.3 on Versus.
