NCAA Week 9: Another Drop For Georgia/Florida Game

For the second straight year, ratings and viewership declined for the Georgia/Florida rivalry game.

Last Saturday’s college football game between #22 Georgia and Florida earned a 3.2 final rating and 5.001 million viewers on CBS, down a tick in ratings and 9% in viewership from the same matchup last year (UF/UGA: 3.3, 5.477M), and down 27% and 28%, respectively, from the same matchup in 2009 (UGA/UF: 4.4, 6.932M).

Though down from last year, the game earned the third-largest audience of the season for college football on CBS (nine telecasts).

In addition, Georgia/Florida finished comfortably ahead of afternoon games on ABC and NBC.

Overall, this has been a down year for the SEC on CBS, owing primarily to blowout games. Seven of the eight SEC telecasts on CBS this season have had declines in both ratings and viewership compared to last year, the lone exception being Auburn/South Carolina in Week 5.

Six of the network’s eight SEC telecasts have been decided by double-digits, with five decided by at least 20 points.
