Recent sports TV ratings notes, including record viewership for the NBA preseason on NBA TV, record ratings for the Bulls’ preseason on Comcast SportsNet Chicago, and the highest ratings in at least seven years for the Knicks’ preseason on MSG Network.

  • Clippers/Lakers Sets NBA TV Record: Monday’s Clippers/Lakers NBA preseason game drew 509,000 viewers on NBA TV, the largest audience ever for a preseason game on the network. The previous record was set by Pistons/Heat last year (501K). Keep in mind this is the second season NBA TV has been a Nielsen-rated network. (NBA.com)
  • CSN Chicago Earns Best Bulls Preseason Rating: Comcast SportsNet Chicago earned a 4.6 rating for Pacers/Bulls on Tuesday night, the highest rating ever for an NBA preseason game on a Chicago RSN. The previous record was a 3.2 rating for Supersonics/Bulls in 1997. (NBA.com)
  • MSG Hits Seven-Year High For Knicks’ Preseason: Wednesday’s Nets/Knicks NBA preseason game drew a 2.3 rating on MSG Network in the New York market, the highest rating for a preseason game on the network since at least 2004. The 2.3 rating is higher than the Knicks’ regular season average on MSG last season (1.8). (MSG.com)

considering the outlet of YES Network, the 2.3 rating on MSG Network for a preseason game against the uncompetitive Nets is strikingly impressive.

I think the NBA is in for another year of huge ratings..I keep thinking the ratings will be slightly down compared to last year’s record-breaking levels, but they will still remain some of the highest ever…..for the joy (*sarcasm*) of people who predicted- once again, prematurely- the NBA’s demise (which is funny in itself since the NBA is one of the most watched sports leagues in the world)…People will never learn.
