Ratings and viewership for the Sun Bowl fell to a three-year low.
The 2011 Sun Bowl, an overtime victory for Utah over Georgia Tech, earned a 2.7 final rating and 4.105 million viewers on CBS December 31, down 10% in ratings and 11% in viewership from 2010 (ND/MIA: 3.0, 4.609M), and down 18% in both measures compared to 2009 (OKLA/STAN: 3.3, 5.022M).
The game ranks as the lowest rated and least-viewed since 2008 (ORST/PITT: 2.2, 3.475M).
Though down from last year, the Sun Bowl easily surpassed the other bowl game on broadcast New Year’s Eve, the Cincinnati/Vanderbilt Liberty Bowl on ABC (1.9, 2.967M).
