ESPN has apparently given up on programming a consistent night of WNBA telecasts, instead spreading a pittance of games across any given night of the week.
The ESPN family of networks will combine for just twelve nationally televised WNBA games during the 2012 season, down from thirteen telecasts last year and eighteen in 2010.
ABC will tip off national coverage with Mercury/Lynx on May 20 at 12:30 PM ET, the network’s only telecast of the regular season.
ESPN2, meanwhile, will begin its coverage with Sparks/Sun on June 13.
Only three of the twelve games will air on a Tuesday night, which had been the primary night for WNBA games in previous seasons. There will be four Saturday games, two Sunday games, two Wednesday games and one Thursday game.
