Big Names: Fmr. ESPN Anchor Olbermann Fired (Also: Dana Jacobson, Joe Posnanski)

Former sports anchor Keith Olbermann is once again leaving a network on seemingly bad terms. Meanwhile, ESPN anchor Dana Jacobson and Sports Illustrated writer Joe Posnanski will be making departures of their own, though presumably with less acrimony.

  • Fmr. ESPN, NBC Sports Anchor Olbermann Ousted From Current TV: Former ‘SportsCenter’ and ‘Football Night in America’ anchor Keith Olbermann was fired as host of ‘Countdown with Keith Olbermann’ on Current TV Friday. Olbermann joined Current TV last year after resigning from MSNBC. (Los Angeles Times)
  • Jacobson Leaving ESPN: ESPN anchor Dana Jacobson will leave the network when her contract expires in April. Jacobson, who had been with ESPN since 2002, turned down a contract extension. (USA Today)
  • Sports Illustrated Writer Posnanski Leaving For USA Today/MLBAM Venture: Sports Illustrated writer Joe Posnanski is ending his three-year tenure with the publication, The Big Lead reported Friday. According to the report, Posnanski will join a currently-unnamed USA Today/MLB Advanced Media joint venture. (The Big Lead via Fang’s Bites)

    No political discussions, please.

No discussions, just a bit schadenfreude.

I’d like to think the Olbermann I loved during the Big Show days was replaced by a clone in 1996.

Good luck to Pos. I hope he still does the podcast.

I have not watched First Take in a while and didn’t realize Dana Jacobson stopped being on since January. She had a good  personality for that role and was fun/perky  while putting Jay and Skip in their  place.

Hope she lands in a good spot with NBC Sports  or CBS Sports network.
