Overnight ratings for the NCAA Tournament Selection Show were the lowest since before many current college basketball players were born.
CBS earned a 4.0 overnight rating for the NCAA Tournament Selection Show Sunday evening, down 9% from last year (4.4), and down 17% from 2010 (4.8).
The 4.0 overnight is the lowest for the Selection Show since the program first expanded to an hour in 1995, and the lowest overall since at least 1989. Overnight ratings for the Selection Show prior to 1990 were not immediately available.
As recently as 2005, the Selection Show earned a substantially stronger 5.7 overnight rating.
Of note, the Selection Show has never topped a 6.0 overnight in the hour-long format (1995, 2001-present). By comparison, the show earned at least a 7.0 overnight each year from 1990 to 1994, when it was a half-hour long and aired at 6:30 PM ET.
