Sunday’s clash between the Heat and Knicks scored good numbers on ABC, but considering the marquee names involved, better numbers could have been expected.
The Heat/Knicks NBA regular season game drew a 3.3 overnight rating on ABC Sunday afternoon. There were no regular season games on the comparable date last year.
While the 3.3 for Heat/Knicks would rank among the highest of the season in just about any other year, the overnight is tied as the fifth-lowest of the season on ABC (14 telecasts).
For some perspective, the teams’ most recent meeting this season — a primetime game on TNT just before the All-Star break — drew a 4.0 overnight.
Later Sunday, the Mavericks/Lakers game drew a 3.6 overnight, ABC’s highest NBA overnight since March 4.
