MLB Update: Angels/Yankees No Match For Red Sox/Yankees; Ratings Flat For FOX Season Debut

Though it was a high-profile matchup in its own right, Sunday’s matchup between the Angels and Yankees was no match for Red Sox/Yankees a year earlier.

The Angels/Yankees ‘Sunday Night Baseball’ game drew 2.830 million viewers on ESPN Sunday night, down 40% from Red Sox/Yankees on the second weekend of the season last year (4.697M), but up 32% from Cardinals/Brewers in 2010 (2.144M).

Though down from last year, Angels/Yankees was up 46% from the first Sunday night telecast of the season (CHW/TEX: 1.945M).

Ratings Flat, Viewership Down, For MLB on FOX Opener: Regional Major League Baseball action featuring Red Sox/Tigers in 43% of markets drew a 2.0 final rating and 3.105 million viewers on FOX April 7, flat in ratings and down 2% in viewership from the network’s first telecast last year (2.0, 3.157M), but up 25% and 29%, respectively, compared to the first telecast in 2010 (1.6, 2.412).
