NHL Wrap: Regular Season Viewership Down on NBC and NBC Sports Network


In the first year of a ten-year deal with Comcast’s NBC Universal, average viewership for the NHL dropped on both NBC and NBC Sports Network.

NBC averaged a 1.0 rating and 1.57 million viewers for regular season NHL coverage this year, flat in ratings and down 3% in viewership from last year (1.0, 1.62M).

As usual, the Winter Classic was the top telecast of the season*, earning a 2.1 final rating and 3.733 million viewers on January 2.

Other notable telecasts included the Black Friday Red Wings/Bruins game (0.9, 1.333M) and the February 19 Hockey Day in America doubleheader (REGIONAL: 1.3, 1.939M; BOS/MIN: 0.9, 1.378M).

Over on NBC Sports Network, which began the season as Versus, regular season coverage averaged 332,000 viewers — down 5% from last season (348K).
