Though not as big a draw as recent Sunday afternoon games, Game 1 between the Devils and Flyers earned solid numbers for NBC.
Game 1 of the Devils/Flyers Stanley Cup playoff series drew a 1.9* overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon, up 19% from both Red Wings/Sharks Game 2 last year (1.6), and Canadiens/Penguins Game 2 in 2010 (1.6).
The 1.9 is the second-lowest for a Sunday afternoon playoff game on NBC this year (five telecasts), trailing Penguins/Flyers Game 3 (2.3), Penguins/Flyers Game 6 (2.4), and Bruins/Capitals Game 6 (2.5).
Locally, Sunday’s game drew a 14.6 rating in Philadelphia (up 121% from Bruins/Flyers Game 1 on NBC last year), and a 2.5 in New York.
Including Saturday’s Capitals/Rangers Game 1 on NBC (1.5), the first weekend of the second round averaged a 1.7 overnight on NBC — the highest for second round coverage on broadcast since ABC held the rights in 2004.
* Sports Business Daily reported that the game drew a 1.8 overnight rating.
