The 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs got off to the best start on cable since the 2004-05 lockout.
Coverage of the Stanley Cup Playoffs on NBC Sports Network and CNBC averaged 555,000 viewers Wednesday night, up 4% from last year’s opening night coverage on Versus alone (534K).
This marks the highest average for the first night of the Stanley Cup Playoffs on cable since NBC Sports Network (previously Versus/OLN) began airing games in the 2005-06 season.
In particular, NBC Sports Network averaged 656,000 viewers for a doubleheader featuring Flyers/Penguins Game 1 and Kings/Canucks Game 1, up 23% from last year.
