Despite an early 12:30 PM ET start time, Game 4 between the Rangers and Capitals earned NBC’s best overnight of the playoffs for a Saturday game.
Game 4 of the Rangers/Capitals second round Stanley Cup playoff series drew a 1.6 overnight rating on Saturday afternoon, according to USA Today. There was no NBC telecast during the comparable week of last year’s postseason.
The 1.6 overnight is the highest of the season for a Saturday afternoon Stanley Cup playoff game on NBC. The previous three telecasts — including Capitals/Rangers Game 1 a week earlier — each drew a 1.5 overnight.
Of course, the numbers still do not compare to what NBC drew on Sunday afternoons during the first round, when games from the Flyers/Penguins and Capitals/Bruins series drew overnights of 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5.
