Divisive ESPN anchor Chris Berman will call NFL play-by-play for the first time later this year.
Berman will call the September 10 Chargers/Raiders ‘Monday Night Football’ game on ESPN, the second-half of the network’s season opening doubleheader. Berman will work alongside returning analyst Trent Dilfer.
The network confirmed the news Wednesday. The news was originally reported by the unverified Twitter account of the website Sports By Brooks.
To prepare for the regular season telecast, Berman and Dilfer will also work a Cardinals/Titans preseason game on August 23.
ESPN typically uses nontraditional play-by-play voices for the late game of the Week 1 doubleheader. For several seasons, the late night game was called by Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic of the ‘Mike and Mike in the Morning’ radio show.
