A move from broadcast to cable helped boost viewership for the U.S. Olympic swimming trials.
From Monday to Thursday, viewership increased by over 200 percent for each night of the swimming trials on NBC. Wednesday’s action earned the top audience of the week with 7.09 million viewers, up 296% from coverage on USA Network in 2008 (1.789M).
That was preceded by similarly large increases on Monday and Tuesday. Monday’s action drew 6.928 million viewers, up 285% from 2008 (1.801M), and Tuesday’s coverage scored 6.962 million, up 324% (1.642M).
Thursday’s telecast brought up the rear with 6.2 million viewers, still up 217% from 2008 (1.954M).
