Olympics: NBC Adds Live Swimming Coverage to Saturday Schedule

Posted by | July 28, 2012 at 12:38 AM

In a rarity, swimming will be televised live on NBC Saturday morning.

The NBC broadcast network will air live coverage of Saturday’s men’s 4×100 individual medley qualifying heats, featuring Americans Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. Coverage will air during the 5:00 AM-6:00 AM hour, with NBC cutting away from originally scheduled coverage of a the men’s cycling road race.

Initially, NBC planned to air the swimming qualifying event on tape delay at 11 AM ET.

Currently, only three swimming telecasts on NBC are scheduled to air live — Saturday’s telecast, qualifying next Friday afternoon, and coverage of the women’s marathon on August 9.

Will hardly watch Olympics as I am only interested in a few sports, too many stories and commercials although less than a few years ago and it is impossible to know when I can watch what I enjoy.  Not on your site or any other and certainly not in newspaper guides.  Not worth the bother to keep searching. Kathleen McElroy

NBC has been more generous, it’s true. For those of us that love swimming this is much appreciated and hopefully this will continue into this weekend as well. Channels like MSNBC, CNBC, BRAVO and NBC Sports are presenting all of the sports and to be honest, that’s a lot of channels to watch. It kind of makes it hard to set everything up to record. A Dish co-worker suggested I upgrade to the Hopper a few months ago which comes with three tuners so I can  record all those stations and it also has four times more space than your average DVR! Now I can make sure that all of my favorite events are being recorded and I don’t have to worry that I’ll run out of space. Go Team USA!
