Overnight ratings surged for The Greenbrier Classic despite the absence of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Also included are overnight ratings for the Tour de France on NBC and the IndyCar Series on ABC.
- Strong Gains For The Greenbrier Classic: Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Greenbrier Classic drew a 2.1 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, up 40% from last year (1.5), and up 75% from 2010 (1.2). On Saturday, third round coverage drew a 1.4, up 40% from both last year and 2010 (1.0). While this year’s tournament featured Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, both missed the cut and did not play the weekend rounds. (Sports Business Daily)
- NBC’s Tour de France Coverage Earns 1.0 Overnight Sunday: Live coverage of the Tour de France on the NBC broadcast network drew a 0.9 overnight rating on Saturday (Stage 7) and a 1.0 overnight on Sunday (Stage 8). Both telecasts aired opposite the Wimbledon singles finals on ESPN. For some perspective, the network’s taped Stage 1 coverage the previous weekend drew a mere 0.3 overnight. (Sports Business Daily)
- 0.9 Overnight For IndyCar From Toronto: The IndyCar Series Honda Indy Toronto drew a 0.9 overnight rating on ABC Sunday afternoon, up 125% from last year’s edition of the race on Versus (0.4), but down a tick from the 2010 race on ABC (1.0). Sunday’s race only barely topped taped coverage of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix airing on FOX at virtually the same time (0.8). (Sports Business Daily)
