TV Ratings: USA Basketball Viewership Up Big From 2008 (Also: WNBA on ESPN, Nationwide Series)

The second USA men’s basketball exhibition game had another big increase in viewership from 2008. In other news, WNBA ratings are up on the ESPN family of networks, and Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series had a double-digit decline.

  • Big Increase For USA/Brazil Exhibition: Monday’s United States/Brazil men’s basketball exhibition game drew 2.074 million viewers on ESPN2, up 92% from the second USA exhibition game in 2008, a tape delayed matchup against Turkey (1.082M). The telecast more than doubled competing coverage of an Angels/Tigers Major League Baseball game on ESPN (774K). (The Futon Critic)
  • Modest Rise For WNBA on ESPN Family of Networks: Regular season WNBA telecasts on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC have averaged a 0.24 U.S. rating entering the Olympic break (seven telecasts), up 9% from the comparable point of last season (0.22, eight telecasts). (ESPN)
  • Double-Digit Drop For Nationwide Series From New Hampshire: Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series F.W. Webb 200 from New Hampshire drew 1.912 million viewers on ESPN, down 10% from last year (2.146M), but up 16% from 2010 (1.652M). (ESPN)
