NBC put up solid numbers for the preseason debut of ‘Sunday Night Football,’ but still suffered a decline compared to last year.

Sunday’s Colts/Steelers NFL preseason game drew a 6.8 overnight rating on NBC, according to Sports Business Daily, down 4% from Chargers/Cowboys in Week 2 of last year’s preseason (7.1).

NBC did not televise a game during Week 2 of the 2010 preseason.

Excluding the Olympics, the 6.8 overnight is the highest for any sporting event since the MLB All-Star Game in July (8.1).
