Former NBC NBA analyst Isiah Thomas is evidently planning a return to television.
Thomas has auditioned for an NBA analyst role on ESPN, ESPN VP/communications Mike Soltys confirmed to USA Today. Thomas was part of the lead NBA broadcast team for NBC during the 1997-98 season, and remained a studio analyst for the network until joining the Indiana Pacers in 2000.
Since leaving NBC, Thomas has become one of the most controversial figures in the NBA due to his tumultuous tenure with the New York Knicks.
ESPN also confirmed to USA Today that former Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy — brother of ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy — will not have a role on the network this season.
