Despite featuring one of the most breathlessly hyped teams in professional sports, the NFL national window suffered a modest decline on CBS.
The Week 2 NFL national window, featuring Jets/Steelers in 82% of markets, earned a 14.4 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon — down 5% from coverage featuring Chargers/Patriots last year (15.1), and down 14% from coverage featuring Patriots/Jets in 2010 (16.7).
The 14.4 is the lowest for the Week 2 national window since 2007, when coverage featuring Chiefs/Bears drew an 11.5.
Despite the decline, Sunday’s national window drew the highest overnight of the weekend for NFL action, topping “Sunday Night Football” on NBC (13.9).
Earlier Sunday, regional NFL action including Ravens/Eagles drew an 11.6 overnight — up 16% from a 10.0 last year, and up 4% from an 11.2 in 2010.
