For the second straight week, ESPN attracted the lowest rating ever for a Chase For the Cup race.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup AAA 400 from Dover earned a 2.2 U.S. rating and 3.581 million viewers on ESPN Sunday afternoon, down 15% in ratings and 13% in viewership from last year (2.6, 4.093M), and down 8% and 10%, respectively, from 2010 (2.4, 3.966M).
Sunday’s race tied last week’s Sylvania 300 as the lowest rated Chase For the Cup race ever (excludes rainouts). Prior to this year, the lowest rating was a 2.3 for the 2010 Price Chopper 400 from Kansas.
The twelve lowest rated Chase For the Cup races have aired on ESPN.
In addition, this marks the lowest rated edition of the fall Dover race since at least 2000 (ratings prior to 2001 were not available) and the least-viewed since at least 2001 (viewership prior to 2002 was not available).
